Color Swatch Hunt (A To Z Challenge)

Here's a simple way to solve a huge problem in life... and... a fun homework exercise that will keep your kids entertained. First The Problem: when you're out "having fun" at some place like the park, and aquarium, zoo, etc. and your kids get so overwhelmed looking at everything all at once that suddenly you have crying for no logical reason (okay there is a logical reason but by the time they're crying you no longer care about logic). So... you end up having this fantastic idea spoiled by way too much to look at. So what's the solution? Color swatches! Yes those free paint swatches you get from the hardware store. Hurry go stock up it will save your sanity!

Here's the game. You'll need 3 or more strips of colors then just punch the corner of them with and use a shower curtain or office ring to clip them together. Give each child a marker, or plan on helping them. Then when you're out give each child the task of finding as many of the colors as they can. This gives them something to focus on and helps them concentrate while instead of becoming over stimulated. We find fish that are the various colors, ducks, clouds, water, flowers, trees, clothing people are wearing, signs etc. Write down on each swatch what you found that matched that color!

  1. You know, I have a bunch of colour swatches from when we repainted the bathroom. They might come in handy sometime!

I found you in the A-Z Challenge list. Nice to "meet" you!

  2. Love this idea. My toddler doesn't get overwhelmed like that, but this could help curb boredom while we are waiting for something.

  4. I have smaller grandchildren this would work well with. What a great idea, even for those rainy inside days, too.
