C is For Coins

Monday:

ABC Mouse: Learning Path at least one game per day.

Reading: Lesson #11 Brill Kids Reading & Lesson #16 Open Court The Letter 'C'

Math: Lesson #12 Brill Kids Math

Social Science: 
Coins are money. How do we get money? What do we use money for? Make a job chart for each child to earn money throughout the week, then let them spend it at a store at the end of the week (a step up from bead shopping at home).

Art:
Making money sticks. Take 5 items each worth .25 cents, then make 5 sticks using different variations of coins to add up to 25 cents. Show the kids that each stick is worth 25 cents and could be used to purchase any one of the items.

Second Language (sigh language): 
Money, Coin, Green, Work and Thank you.

Exploration:
Examine coins, quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies. What is the same? What is different? How much is each one worth?

Flash Cards:

Tuesday:

Social Science: 
Make a grocery list, then go to a grocery store and find items on your list. How much does each item cost? How much do you need to buy them all? Keep lists short (3-7 item). Let the kids buy the items with cash and bring them home to eat for dinner or a snack. For even more fun limit it to 'c' words. Such as carrots, cupcakes, cheese, chicken, crackers etc. 
Art:
Color a Coin Sheet.

Exploration:

Get a large bag or tub of coins, and 4 smaller containers one labeled: Quarters, Pennies, Nickles, Dimes. Sort the bin of coins into the four containers.

Friday:

Test:
1. What things start with 'c'? (must be able to name at least 3 but try for 5-7)
2. Count to 7.
3. What sound does 'c' make?
4. Read all flash cards.
5. Do all 5 signs.
6. Let each child spend their "coins" to buy prizes from a store.
