Lesson Plan - Butterflies and Creepy Crawlies

Here is our weekly Lesson Plan for Butterflies and Creepy Crawlies Week. Feel free to copy and modify this to fit your teaching style, and level! Please note: this lesson plan is not "instead of" but "in addition to" our regular daily pre-school activities. I only plan themed activities for 3 days a week, the other 3 days that we do 'pre-school' time with our children we use their regular activities unmodified for the weekly theme. To see our regular schedule click here.

After you have left the prints you want take markers and draw the prints into bugs! It's a super fun art project. Music Time:  We are practicing Out Side from Signing Time. You can see the music video (clip from the full episode here) I highly recommend getting the full episode to reinforce these signs.
Discovery Time: To the park we go! We're out looking for butterflies, and if we don't find any we'll come home and color some of our own!

This was one I helped Inara with as an example piece.

Friday:

Arts & Crafts: Making Worms In The Mud Desert!

Instructions: You'll need 5 Oreo cookies for each desert, peal them apart, and scrape the cream out of the middle. Set the cookies in a plastic bag and break them up into "crumbs". Mix up 1 box of chocolate or french vanilla instant pudding for every 4 deserts you wish to make. Let it set. Take the set pudding and put it in clear plastic cups about half full. Push gummy worms into it then sprinkle half the Oreo for each desert on top. Add another gummy worm as desired and top off with the rest of the Oreo cookie. Now you have "Worms in the Mud" and it's delicious!
Music Time:  We are practicing Caterpillar Dream from Signing Time. You can see the music video (clip from the full episode here) I highly recommend getting the full episode to reinforce these signs.
Discovery Time: We're taking the girls to the zoo to see the butterflies and bugs! Our zoo has a fun display of live bugs and butterflies in what they call the Butterfly House. Look for something similar in your area! Gardens often have these.

Here's What You'll Need: Pudding (Instant),
Milk, Oreos, and Gummy Worms

Remove the "cream" from the Oreos Before Crushing.
Ready To Create!
What a Yummy Worm Desert!
